About this Mom...
Monyca has been the Popcorn Colonel for Pack 104 for the past 2 years and has done an amazing job. It's a job that no one else ever wants to do and she has worked hard to create a system where the Scouts are motivated and rewarded while increasing sales. Monyca also attends the council meetings on the popcorn fundraiser and is becoming increasingly involved at that level. She also helps lead Den meetings and activities.
What's It Like to Be a Scout Mom?
"I love being a Scout Mom. My husband was an Eagle Scout, so I know that scouting helps the scouts learn skills they can use for the rest of their lives. My husband is our son's den leader, so there's a lot of scout talk in our house. It's fun to listen to them plan den meetings. And I've enjoyed watching our son move up in the ranks."
What do you like most about being a Scout Mom?
"I love the pride our son has in his uniform and the adventures he earns. He's allowed to wear his uniform to school on meeting days, and that's a big deal. Scouts teaches responsibility, leadership and teamwork. I can see these traits in his fellow scouts at activities outside of scouting also."
How has Scouting changed your relationship with your Scout?
"It's shown me he can be responsible and a leader. He works hard at everything-meetings, fundraisers, campouts. I've enjoyed watching him grow in this experience."
What would you tell a mom asking for your advice about becoming a Scout Mom?
"Just try it! You can volunteer for everything, or just one thing. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Keep an open mind and be ready to be amazed at how much the scouts learn."
